I was born in South Africa and raised on a working dairy and cattle farm where food wasn’t just a passion, it was community and craft. From a young age, I was helping break down beef carcasses to fill our family’s deep freeze. That’s where I learned that great food begins long before it hits the plate, it starts with respect for the animal, the land, and the process.
SALTLICK is an extension of that upbringing. A modern steakhouse grounded in tradition, fire, and genuine hospitality. It’s a place where premium cuts, wood smoke, good wine, and Bali sunsets all come together.
The Journey Here
After earning my Cordon Bleu degree in 2003, I spent years travelling and cooking around the world, from Europe to Asia, learning the language of flavour. I worked across global kitchens, absorbing food trends, mastering classics, and discovering what true hospitality looks like. But wherever I went, I kept coming back to the same core principles: quality ingredients, honest technique, bold flavour, and respect for origin.
When I arrived in Bali, I knew it was time to build something lasting. SALTLICK sits above KU DE TA in Seminyak, with sweeping ocean views and a menu that honours the great steakhouse traditions, dry-aged beef, fire, smoke, seasonal produce, all with a Bali soul.
The name? SALTLICK is a nod to where it all began, elemental, raw, and essential. It’s about drawing people in the way salt draws animals to the source. That’s what we do here: pull you toward flavour, flame, and connection.
